Gemma Payne
Choreographer and Movement Director

Gemma is a choreographer and movement director working in film, television, theatre, dance, opera, fashion, and commercial work. She provides movement support to actors on and off set.

As a choreographer and movement director, Gemma offers a creative, open, collaborative experience having worked in a wide range of versatile genres and productions across film, television, theatre, opera, and commercial work. She adapts skillfully to different environments, expectations, and performers’ physical knowledge, and strives to empower the artist she is engaging with.

She trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School and went on to complete her training at the Central School of Ballet, studying a variety of dance styles. Between the years 2000 and 2011 she was a dancer for Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures performing nationally and internationally in many principal roles.

In 2004 Gemma performed as a soloist with the Gothenburg Ballet, Sweden and from 2011 she pursued her career further by focusing on working as a freelance artist performing work and has collaborated with choreographers Wayne McGregor, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Arthur Pita, Aletta Collins, Anthony Van Laast, Signe Fabricius, Teddy Forance, Lynne Page, Matthew Bourne, Alex Reynolds, and Polly Bennett.

Gemma received distinction for a Masters of Arts Choreography degree through Central School of Ballet and University of Kent.
