Gemma Payne is a choreographer and movement director working across film, television, theatre, opera and commercial productions. She creates movement that deepens character, strengthens storytelling and gives performers the clarity and confidence to bring ideas to life on stage and screen.

Known for her collaborative and adaptable approach, Gemma works with performers and creative teams across a wide range of disciplines and production scales. Her understanding of both the rehearsal room and on-set environments allows her to translate creative ideas into movement with precision, trust and fluidity.

Gemma trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School and Central School of Ballet before performing internationally with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures from 2000 to 2011, creating leading roles and touring extensively worldwide.

Since 2011, she has worked as a freelance artist and movement director, collaborating with leading choreographers and creatives including Wayne McGregor, Michael Keegan-Dolan, Arthur Pita, Aletta Collins, Anthony Van Laast, Will Tuckett, Signe Fabricius, Teddy Forance, Lynne Page, Matthew Bourne, Alex Reynolds and Polly Bennett.

Gemma holds an MA in Choreography with Distinction from Central School of Ballet and the University of Kent.
