Gemma is a British born dancer, choreographer, movement director and creative director.
She trained at The Royal Ballet Upper School and went on to complete her training at Central School of Ballet. She was the dancer’s course winner of The Royal Ballet School’s 1996 Ursula Moreton Choreographic Award for ‘Nine to Nyman’, which went on to be performed at the school’s annual end of year performance.
Gemma currently creates her own work for theatre and film under Payne Productions.
Between the years 2000 and 2011 she was a dancer for Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures performing nationally and internationally principal and ensemble roles in The Car Man, Nutcracker, Highland Fling, Edward Scissorhands, Swan Lake and the Christmas TV special.
During 2004 Gemma performed as a soloist with the Gothenburg Ballet, Sweden and from 2011she pursued her career further into focusing on working as a freelance artist. She has performed with singer Sarah Brightman on her Dreamchaser world tour and collaborated on various contemporary projects for opera, theatre, pre-production workshops, pop artists, film and TV working with choreographers Lynne Page, Wayne McGregor, Michael Keegan Dolan, Arthur Pita, Aletta Collins, Signe Fabricius, Alex Reynolds, Caroline Pope, Will Tuckett, Cathy Marston, Anthony van Laast, Aaron Sillis and Liam Steel.
Gemma has been an associate choreographer to Lynne Page over the past 4 years, leading her to work as associate choreographer at the San Francisco Opera and Vienna Staatsoper for the production ‘Les Troyens’, Grand Theatre de Geneve for the production ‘Medea’ both directed by Sir David McVicar. She has been associate choreographer and rehearsal director for the Barbican’s London Jazz Festival and Latitude Music Festival, in collaboration with band GoGo Penguin. She worked as rehearsal room assistant on the creation of the Pet Shop Boys’ Royal Opera House premiere of their ‘Inner Sanctum’ show and at the Menier Chocolate Factory for Sir Trevor Nunn’s recent play ‘Love in Idleness’. Her television assisting work appears on Netflix Original Series ‘The Crown’ Season 2, as assistant choreographer and movement coach to the principal artists Claire Foy, Matt Smith and Danny Sapani.
Gemma has worked as associate choreographer for the creation of Rupert Goold’s play ‘Ink’ for the Almeida Theatre 2017, West End transfer 2017/18 and the 2019 Broadway transfer of the production.

Gemma is also a qualified yoga teacher, training in Los Angeles in 2011 and London in 2015. Her teaching varies from open classes, private clients and she also enjoys specialising with students that are beginners or guiding students with injuries.
